Get together for some holiday cheer at Milford Memorial Library on Saturday, December 4, from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. for our Holiday Open House. There will be kids crafts for the making or taking, Festival of Trees for voting, and enticing treats provided by the Friends of the Milford Library. Make sure you stop by and visit with Santa to tell him your wish.  We hope you can join us for some holiday fun.
 
Friday, December 3, is the last day to bring in a tree for the Festival of Trees. Voting will be held during MML’s Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Categories include Best Business, Best Organization, Best Personal/Family, Most Creative, and Librarian’s Choice. Winners will receive $20 in Milford Bucks provided by the Friends of the Milford Memorial Library.
 
One can. Two can. Who can? You can help fill the Dickinson County Upper Des Moines pantry by bringing in non-perishable food items to the Milford Memorial Library. We will be collecting items from now ­­­­­until Friday, December 17. Items to consider donating include: pancake mix, syrup, canned fruit, and Hamburger Helper.
 
On Wednesday, December 3, at 5:30 p.m., an open meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Milford Memorial Library will take place in the Milford Community Center. The agenda will be posted on MML’s website and front bulletin board at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend and offer their thoughts in order to make MML a better library.
 
Welcome winter with MML’s Young Adult Subscription Box: Let’s Build a Snowman.  This box is full of ways to create frosty friends, who might even warm your heart. Fourth through twelfth graders will create a snowman measuring spoon, wood bead snowman ornament, and a 3D paper snowman. A reading list, watch list, play list, and a recipe are added little flakes of fun. Join Miss Becca at Milford Memorial Library for the following December youth programs.  There will be a make and take/to go holiday craft that is a part of Milford’s Holiday Fantasy weekend from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 4.  Afterschool Activity will involve iron on beads at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 9.  Lastly, there will be one Building Bookworms storytime on the theme of holidays (craft: jingle bell noisemaker) at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 13.

            Milford Memorial Library will be closed Thursday, November 25, and Friday, November 26, for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving and we will see you on Saturday, November 27, 9:30 a.m.

The last November Building Bookworms storytime will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 29.  The theme will be owls with the craft being a paper plate owl. 
Miss Becca has three different December programs that are free and require no registration.  The first one will be a simple holiday kid’s craft at Milford’s Holiday Fantasy.  This will take place on Saturday, December 4, during normal library hours.  The second opportunity will be Afterschool Activity at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 9.  The activity will be iron beads.  The final program will be Building Bookworms (storytime) at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 13.  The theme will be holidays with the craft being a jingle bell noisemaker.

Join us on Tuesday, November 23, at 7:00 p.m., at the Arnolds Park Library, for a fun night of painting, fellowship, and snacks provided by the three local libraries. Any skill level is invited to recreate a painting following step-by-step instruction. All of the supplies will be provided by the libraries. There are only 30 spots available so pre-register at the Arnolds Park Public Library, Spirit Lake Public Library, or the Milford Memorial Library. The cost is $10.00 for early registration and $15 for registration on the day of the event. Registrants will need to pay prior to the event to secure their spot. Milford Memorial Library will be closed on Thursday, November 25, and Friday, November 26, in observance of Thanksgiving. We will be open on Saturday, November 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
 
Traveling for the holidays? Take MML’s internet with you. MML has four hotspot devices available for patrons to checkout for seven days with only one renewal allowed. Overdue Hotspots will be charged $1.00 per day. Patrons will be held responsible for all applicable replacement costs and processing fees up to $150.00 for the hotspot and/or accessories lost, stolen, or damaged while in their possession. MML’s book club, the Open Book Discussion Group, invites any interested individuals to come and discuss the featured book, Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter by Kate Clifford Larson, on Tuesday, November 16, at 1:00 p.m. Copies can be found at the library. It is not necessary to attend all of the meetings, and you are welcome to come and go as you please.
 
Join MML for our Adult Craft Series as we make Fabric Pumpkins on Wednesday, November 17, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Milford Memorial Library. This craft also comes in kit form. The kit will include: fabric, stuffing, thread, needle, stem and instructions. The cost for this craft is $5.00 and registration is required. Building Bookworms will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, November 15 and 29.  The themes will focus on turkeys and owls. Storytimes include stories, rhymes/songs, coloring/activity sheets, and simple crafts. Afterschool Activity will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 11. The craft will be glitter slime.  Everything will be in person and take place at Milford Memorial Library.
There are new youth book displays for November. These include: Thanksgiving, Clifford, harvest, Native Americans, and geography/atlases. Stop by MML today to check out one of these amazing books to take home with your kiddos.

HelpNow by Brianfuse offers the SkillSufer. By creating an account, users can access this content library. They are able to access a variety of subjects that have mini lessons. Subjects range from lower elementary to collegiate. High School students could find the college entrance test prep helpful. HelpNow also includes lessons for ASVAB testing, ELL learners, and adult learners.

Inside SkillSufer, each subject has a practice test. Completed practice tests can be found under My Tests tab. The tests taken in SkillSurfer can be reset and retaken.  
Users will see tests that cannot be retaken. These tests are diagnostic test, based on knowledge taken in the LEAP Learning Platform. After taking a LEAP Learning Platform test, LEAP will create a study plan. A study plan brings direct lessons, videos, and a link to a tutor.
