Did you get a new device for the holidays? Have questions about how to use it? Want to know more about the Libby App from the library? Join us for Tech Help Hour on Tuesday, January 30, from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m., for help with your new device or help setting up Libby. Patrons will get a limit of 15 minutes of help if there are others waiting.
 
Mark your calendars for MML’s Blind Date with a Book. There will be no title or description on the wrapping. You will only know the book’s genre. Blind Date with a book will be held from Thursday, February 1, through Thursday, February 29. 
 
Stay in and get cozy with a movie from MML.  Your Milford Memorial Library has a variety of DVDs available for all age ranges and interests.  Find an old favorite like Rear Window, Lonesome Dove, Save the Last Dance, and Anything Goes. We invite you to come browse or search MML’s online catalog.
 
Celebrate National Puzzle Day, Monday, January 29, with a puzzle from MML.  We have children’s puzzles available for in-library use.  MML has a binder full of adult puzzles available for checkout.
 
Patrons are able to use MML’s drive-up window for reserves, printing, and copying pick up. The window is open during operating hours. Second semester could be easier for your student with HelpNow by Brianfuse.  This free educational resource is great for homework help and skill building. This free resource can be found on our webpage, milford.lib.ia.us., under the “Use Our Library” and the “Helpful Resources” tabs. This resource provides live online tutoring, editing papers, personalized study program, and games to help your student study.  HelpNow is for students elementary through collegiate.

Milford Memorial Library: Youth News

Do you have a library card? If not, do you want to get one? Stop by Milford Memorial Library to sign up for a card for free. However, some things to keep in mind include being at least 10 years old (connect cards to their adults if young), bring a current driver’s license, and make sure to have only one library card in the town you pay taxes. As soon as your set, you can use the card at all of the local libraries, as well as you can return any materials to them. Library cards are small, but mighty as they can open up the many wonders of a youth’s mind.

Milford Memorial Library has one last January program which is Building Bookworms (storytime) at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 29. The theme is books with the craft being a homemade paper bag book.

This month we will be joined by special guest Kris Walker and she will lead us though a simple landscape painting using only three colors. The cost is $15 for registration. MML’s online catalog has a variety of features to support your reading experience. After login, patrons may click “My Account”. A patron may view their past read history, manage their reserves and requests, and currently checked out materials.  The bookmark tab, collects the titles a user clicks to “bookmark this item”. To leave a review, locate the title and click the title for the full information. Scroll down to “Reviews” click “Show Reviews” and click “Review this title”. Fill out the form and click “Submit (subject to approval)”.   Patrons can take advantage of these resources by going to MML’s website, www.milford.lib.ia.us. Milford Memorial Library has a great selection of magazines available for check out. Patrons can try new recipes, sew a new quilt design, create a new project, or learn something new. Patrons are able to check out the most recent issues of most popular magazines like, HGTV, Reader’s Digest Large Print, Mother Earth News, Cook’s Country, and Vanity Fair to name a few.  Magazines can be enjoyed for two weeks.

Did you know that Miss Becca not only does public library programming, but she also partners with ISU Clover Kids, the local daycares, and school classrooms up to 2nd Grade? Each month she finds new books to read and supplies each group with supplemental activity/coloring sheets. Miss Becca is definitely busy each month, but she enjoys working with kids and spreading the joy of books and literacy. ​Milford Memorial Library has two more January programs, and we would love to have your family join us. We have Minds in Motion (sensory play) at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 22, and Building Bookworms (storytime) at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 29.

Available crafts include a Painted Popsicle Sign, Wood Wick Flower Candle, Stained Glass Votive, Live Evergreen Centerpiece, Clay Jewelry, Book Clock, and Foam Snowman. ​January is off and running, and Milford Memorial Library has great things happening for your family. We have three more opportunities this month for youth programming. They include two Building Bookworms (Jan. 15, at 10:30 a.m. & Jan. 29, at 10:30 a.m.) and Minds in Motion (Jan. 22, at 10:30 a.m.). If you haven’t checked out our library website (milford.lib.ia.us) or our Facebook page, you are definitely missing out. We have so much information, pictures, and program reminders. When you find some books for your family, reserve them in your account. Then we will find and have them waiting for you. Miss Becca is excited to see new and old faces so stop on by MML

On Tuesday, January 16, at 1:00 p.m., the Milford Memorial Library Book Club will be meeting for discussion of Homecoming by Kate Morton. Any interested individuals are welcome to attend. It is not necessary to attend all of the book meetings, and you can come and go as you please.

The time for tax forms will be arriving soon. The cost to copy or print a tax form at the Milford Memorial Library is $0.10 per page for blank forms and $0.20 per page for filled-in forms.
 
The winter weather is starting to move in. Remember you may pick up your requested library materials at the drive-up window located on the east side (side closest to Highway 71) of the library.

Happy New Year library friends and families! The youth area at Milford Memorial Library is all set with new book displays and decorations. Plus, we have our monthly programming starting next week. We have Minds in Motion (sensory play) at 10:30 a.m. on January 8, and Afterschool Adventures (group fun) at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 11 (craft: marble maze).
