Milford Memorial Library News

On Monday, January 6, at 5:30 p.m., an open meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Milford Memorial Library will take place in the Milford Community Center. The agenda will be posted on MML’s website and front bulletin board at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend and offer their thoughts in order to make MML a better library.

On Tuesday, January 14, at 3:30 p.m., MML is hosting a Glow Game Event for 4th through 12th graders. Come compete in Glow-In-The-Dark Bowling, Tic-Tac-Toe, and more. This is a free event with no preregistration required. All materials will be provided by the library.

We have new interactive items for Milford Memorial Library’s Public Playdate.  Join your friends at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 4.  Everything will be provided by the library, so all you need to do is bring the kiddos and their imaginations!

January’s first Building Bookworms: Snow Excited will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, January 6.  Miss Becca will have books, music and movement, and a simple craft (snow slime) ready to share with the kiddos.

Afterschool Activity will be at 3:30 P.M. on Thursday, January 9, at MML.  The craft will be salt painted snowflakes.  This will entail the kids using glue, salt, and paint to create colorful snowflakes.  There is no registration, no cost, and all of the materials will be available at the library.

Milford Memorial Library News

On December 6th and 7th the community voted on The Festival of Trees and the results are in. The winner of the Best Personal/Family Tree was the Antoine Family with “Duct the Halls”. Best Organization Tree went to American Legion Auxiliary Unit #384. Little Sprouts Daycare won Most Creative. Milford Casey’s won Best Business and Librarians Choice. Each of our winners received $20 in Milford Bucks and a $20 in gift certificates to Perkins. The Best Business Tree winner got to take home the handmade traveling trophy in addition to other prizes. Thank you to all who participated in and supported Festival of Trees this year. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!

Thank you to the Friends of the Milford Memorial Library for volunteering their time to make and serve treats at the Festival of Trees and MML’s Holiday Open House.  We would also like to thank to Santa and Mrs. Claus for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet and read to children and adults.

We would like to thank everyone who donated food to our food drive for Dickinson County Upper Des Moines.

Milford Memorial Library will be closing at Noon on Tuesday, December 24, for Christmas Eve. We will also be closed all day on Wednesday, December 25, for Christmas.

Come get in the festive spirit with Building Bookworms: Holiday Hangings at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, December 23, at Milford Memorial Library.  Bigs and littles (a.k.a. adults and kiddos) are encouraged to wear their pajamas for a morning full of stories, songs/rhymes, and a simple craft made out of colorful paint strips.  Everyone is encouraged to join this program at no charge.  Happy Holidays and New Year Wishes from Miss Becca!

Thank you to the Friends of the Milford Memorial Library for volunteering their time to make and serve treats at the Festival of Trees and MML’s Holiday Open House.  We would also like to thank Teresa Ortman for playing the piano during the Festival of Trees Friday night, to Santa and Mrs. Claus for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet and read to children and adults, and to Perkins and the Friends of the Milford Memorial Library for sponsoring the Festival of Trees. Festival of Tree winners will be announced soon. So keep a look out!

The library is hosting the food drive this year for Holiday Fantasy. This ongoing food drive for Dickinson County Upper Des Moines will end on Friday, December 13. Nonperishable food items can be brought to the Milford Memorial Library.

Join the Milford Library's Open Book Discussion Group on Tuesday, December 17, at 1:00 p.m. This group is open to all. It's not necessary to attend all meetings. Come and go as you please! We will be discussing Furious Hours by Casey Cep.

Light-up the night with your own DIY Flashlight! All 4th through 8th graders are invited on Tuesday, December 17, at 3:30 p.m., to join Miss Paige in creating your own flashlight.  There is no pre-registration or cost for this program. All materials are provided by the library.

Milford Memorial Library will be closed on Wednesday, December 18, for Dickinson County Staff Development Day. We will resume normal hours on Thursday, December 19.

Do you like cookies, frosting, and more?  Join Miss Becca at 3:30 P.M. on Thursday, December 12, for Afterschool Activity at Milford Memorial Library.  This program is open to Preschool-4th Grade youth, and there is no charge.  Thank you to the talented Ms. Sandy Alexander for donating the yummy cookies.

We have a big week at the library this week. Milford’s Holiday Fantasy is happening this coming weekend and we have a lot of great events planned.

Join us on Friday, December 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., for the Festival of Trees featuring live music from Teresa Ortman. The Friends of the Library will serve refreshments at that time. Festival of Trees will be held entirely in the library. Enjoy dimmed lights while you wander through aisles of books and decorated trees, sample refreshments, and enjoy music from Teresa Ortman beginning at 5:30 p.m. This event is free and open to all. We’ll see you at the library!

Stop by the library Saturday, December 7, for an open house, refreshments, pictures with Santa, free holiday crafts for kids, and stories with Mrs. Claus!

​ It is not too late to enter a tree in our Festival of Trees. We will take trees until Friday, December 6, and trees must be left up through December 7. Trees must be out of the library by noon on January 4. This event is free to all and anyone is welcome to bring a tree to the library to decorate it. The awards this year are for best personal/family tree, best organization tree, best business tree, most creative, and librarian's choice. All winners will receive both $20 in gift certificates to Perkins and $20 in Milford Bucks from the Friends of the Milford Memorial Library. The winner of the best business tree award will also receive a trophy. Contact the library for more information.

Santa, Mrs. Claus, and Miss Becca are excited to see everyone at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 7, at Milford Memorial Library.  Holiday Fantasy is full of Christmas trees, a simple craft, and refreshments.  Plus snuggle in for some stories with Mrs. Claus and pictures with Santa.

Also, don’t forget about Afterschool Activity: Sugar Cookie Decorating at 3:30 P.M. on December 12, and Building Bookworms: Holiday Hangings with your pajamas ready to go at 10:30 A.M. on December 23.
