September 21st – 27th is “Banned Books Week.” This week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Books featured during “Banned Books Week” have been targeted for removal or restrictions. A selection of books will be displayed in our Young Adult section and a longer list can be found through a link on the front page of the Milford Memorial Library website. You may be surprised to find some of your favorite books have been targeted for removal. Celebrate the value of free and open access to information.

Public storytime is happening this Friday, September 26th, at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to join our Children’s Librarian Betty Naab for a time of stories and fun activities. The theme this week is “Silly Tail Tales.”

Did you know we have a year’s worth of newspapers? The library stores all of the newspapers they receive for up to one year. If you missed a copy or an article and know what issue it was just ask and we may be able to find it for you! If you would rather have a digital copy of a paper distributed in Dickinson County we have a link on our website to the Dickinson County Newspaper Archives under the “Do Research” tab.

If you are on our reserve list for the newest Lee Child book Personal we now have two copies circulating. While you are waiting you can check out some of our other new books. Some of our newest books include Whiskey Tango Foxtrot by David Shafer. In this somewhat comedic book three adults take on media barons who want to privatize information and the main characters use radical politics, spy methods, and technology. In The Red Room by Ridley Pearson, the main characters, John Knox and Grace Chu, team up when they are put in the difficult situation of negotiating the sale of an ancient relic. 

Wednesday, September 17th, at 6:30 p.m. we have resume and job search coaching. Library Jim will be available to help with your career goals. He has several years of experience as a human resources consultant. Stop by and talk to Jim for more information or to ask him any questions.

Friday, September 19th, we have public storytime at 10 a.m. The theme this week is “Listen to Your Fish” (taking care of your pet).

Thursday, September 18th, is the first ever “Read an eBook Day.” Celebrate by reading an eBook on your tablet, smartphone, and eBook reader. Don’t forget you can check out eBooks through Wilbor! Visit our website or stop by the library for more details!

Calling all gamers 5th– 8th grades! Video Games Day is happening on Friday, September 12, starting at 3:30 p.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m. in the Milford Memorial Library. Come play Wii and Xbox games provided by Exile Gaming in Milford. Watch “Wreck-it Ralph” while you wait for other gamers.

Our 4th annual “Guys and Kids” event is happening next week, on September 16th, at 6:30 p.m.! The featured guests this year are Dave Rowley, a local musician, and KUOO’s News Director Steve Schwaller. Guys are encouraged to bring their favorite kids for a night of fun music and stories. The first 40 children will receive a free book compliments of the Milford Memorial Library.

Thursday, September 11th, at 10 a.m., we will be looking for our Shelf Elves. Volunteers take on the task of organizing and cleaning a section of shelves. This helps our librarians out a lot and it will make sure you can find the book you are looking for that might have otherwise been misplaced.

Public storytime is happening this Friday, September 12, at 10 a.m. The theme this week is “Kitten Capers”.

The featured guests this year are Dave Rowley, a local musician, and KUOO’s News Director Steve Schwaller. Guys are encouraged to bring their favorite kids for a night of fun music and stories. The first 40 children will receive a free book compliments of the Milford Memorial Library.

There will be no public storytime this Friday, September 5th, but make sure to come the next Friday, September 12th, to hear all about “Kitten Capers”.

Wednesday, September 3rd, at 6:30 p.m. we are offering a free computer class. The class is right after the board meeting. This computer class is led by Jeff Cookinham and is for anyone needing help figuring out their computer.
