Calling all gamers 5th– 8th grades! Video Games Day is happening on Monday, September 12, starting at 3:30 p.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m. in the Milford Memorial Library. Come play Wii and Xbox games provided by Exile Gaming in Milford.

The Teen Summer Reading Program has come to an end and we would like to thank the local businesses and community members who donated prizes and time to the Summer Reading Program. ​The Milford Memorial Library will be closed on Monday, September 5th, in observance of Labor Day.

1. Public Story Time every Friday at 10 a.m. – Join children’s librarian Betty Naab as she shares stories with you! No pre-registration is necessary and each week is a new theme.
2. You can borrow other materials besides books – Check out MML’s selection of audiobooks, DVDs, cake pans, magazines, puzzles, and disc golf discs.
3. Free Wi-Fi and computers – MML has six computers available for public use and free Wi-Fi. Just log in with the password and you can even use it outside.
4. Research Help – MML offers a range of databases including LearningExpress, EBSCOHost, and Explora, Bridges, Auto Repair Reference Center, Dickinson County Cemetery Records, and digitally archived newspapers. The librarians are also willing to help with any questions you may have.
5. Book Club – Did you know that MML has a book club? It is called the Open Book Discussion Group and they meet the third Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. at the library. Anyone is welcome to join. MML also supports many other book clubs in the area.
6. Newspapers – MML receives the Sioux City Journal, Des Moines Register, Dickinson County News, Lakes News Shopper, The Northwest Iowa Review, and The Daily Reporter. Stop in and read these papers while sitting in a comfy chair.
7. Office Equipment (Copier, Fax, and Scanner) – The six computers mentioned earlier can print to the copy machine and you can even print when you are connected to the Wi-Fi. The copy machine can also fax and scan documents to email.
8. Interlibrary Loan – If we don’t have an item you want we can get it on loan from another library! Just ask the staff. MML can also borrow books from out of state or out of the country.
9. Classes and Programs – Take a craft class at the library or come listen to an author speak about their new book. MML offers a wide range of classes/programs and most are free to the public!
10. Books, Books, Books – Last but definitely not least, we have so many books! We have children’s books, young adult books, adult fiction books, non-fiction books, biographies, eBooks, and so much more.

As a fundraiser for Milford’s 125th anniversary celebration the Milford Commercial Club is selling a professional print featuring the Milford Depot. The Milford Memorial Library has one of the prints on display in the library. The Milford Commercial Club also has a beautiful grandfather clock with the print on it that will be raffled off as part of the celebration. Stop by the Milford Memorial Library to see both the print and the clock.

Come to Arnolds Park Public Library on Tuesday, August 23, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., to create a painting, meet new people, and enjoy some refreshments. Please register at the Arnolds Park Public Library, Spirit Lake Public Library, or the Milford Memorial Library. The registration cost for the program is $15. Jump Start to Reading is coming to the end and we want to thank all the adult volunteers and children who participated. Milford Memorial Library children’s librarian, Betty Naab, looks forward to hosting the Jump Start to Reading program again next year.

On Friday, August 5, 5th – 12th grade students are invited to come to the Milford Memorial Library for the end of summer reading program party. The opening games party will include minute to win it games, snacks, and prizes. All supplies are provided by the library at no charge to the students.

Jump Start to Reading  is an opportunity for children to read to adults one-on-one on Friday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Registration forms are available at the circulation desk at the library. ​An open meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Milford Memorial Library will be held Wednesday, August 3, at 5:30 p.m. A free computer class will be led by Jeff Cookinham after the meeting.
