Milford Memorial Library and the Friends of the Milford Library Foundation would like to thank everyone who came out and supported the book sale. The money raised will be used to help with special library programming and projects. Just a reminder, if you won an auction painting, you may pick it up and pay at the library during operating hours. Thank you again for your support.
 
Interested parents can set up days and times throughout August for their kiddo/s to read with Miss Becca at the library. Youth can bring in their own books, or they are can pick out some at the library. This program is running August 1, through August 18. To sign-up for a time call MML at 712-338-4643.
 
Join Miss Becca, on Saturday, August 12, at 10:00 a.m., for a Building Bookworms storytime at the Okoboji Blue Water Festival (youth area by Bob’s Dogs in Arnolds Park). The themed storytime will focus on the environment and clean water through a storytime and craft. All of the materials and services are provided by the library.
 
This is the last week to fill out and return your MML reading log bookmarks. All logs are due on Friday, August 4.
 
Any interested individuals are welcome to join MML’s Book Club on Tuesday, August 15, at 1:00 p.m. The featured book, The Maid by Nita Prose, can be found in our library. It is not necessary to attend all of the book meetings, and you are welcome to come and go as you please. 
 
On Wednesday, August 2, at 5:30 p.m., an open meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Milford Memorial Library will take place in the Milford Community Center. The agenda will be posted on MML’s website and front bulletin board at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend and offer their thoughts in order to make MML a better library.
 
Is there a last-minute summer vacation in your future? If the answer is yes, stop by MML and pick up your free map of Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

We have finally reached August, which means school is right around the corner. Miss Becca has begun her final youth summer program, which is entitled ‘Read with Miss Becca.’ As previously noted, these are casual reading sessions where kiddos can read and discuss their book/s. The sessions run anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. through August 18. Get in touch with her for days and times at [email protected]. Also, this is the final week to earn those awesome prizes. All bookmarks are due on Friday, August 4, to Milford Memorial Library.

​Happy July! Miss Becca at Milford Memorial Library has two friendly reminders for the families. First, keep in mind that all youth can still receive their large prize and a drawing entry until Friday, August 4. We have lots of fun stuff including bubbles, kinetic sand, crafts to make, books, shirts, and passes/gift certificates to various local businesses. Secondly, there is one last program for this summer, and it is called Read with Miss Becca. These are casual reading sessions, and they run anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on August 1-18. On Friday, July 21, join MML and the Family Madrigal at Florence park for an 8:30 p.m. showing of Disney’s Encanto. Everyone is welcome at this free event. Thank you to the Friends of the Milford Library for sponsoring Movie Night in the Park during Pioneer Days.
The Friends of the Milford Memorial Library Foundation Book Sale will be held in the East Community Center Room.

The book sale offers a variety of items for all individuals at great prices. All of the proceeds go to the Friends of the Milford Memorial Library. This group is a non-profit organization that helps support the Milford Memorial Library through volunteering and financial assistance. Two weeks remain for completing MML’s Summer Reading Logs.  Youth, Young Adult, and Adult logs are due on Friday, August 4.

Want to shop the Friends of the Milford Library’s Book Sale early? Join library staff and other volunteers as we set-up at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, July 20, with a potluck to follow. Once everything is in place, let the shopping begin. Please let the library know if you plan to volunteer.
The Friends of the Milford Library are also looking for volunteers to work the book sale. Some extra help will be needed after the book sale on Saturday, July 22, to clean up. “We don’t talk about Bruno”, but MML is talking about Movie Night in the Park, on Friday, July 20. Starting at 8:30 p.m., Disney’s Encanto will be showing at Florence Park. This free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Milford Library.

Join MML’s Open Book Discussion Group on Tuesday, July 18, at 1:00 p.m., as they discuss the featured book, The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn. Any interested individuals may find a copy at the library. It is not necessary to attend all of the meetings, and you are welcome to come and go as you please.

Join MML for our Adult Craft Series as we make a Mini Rope Basket on Wednesday, July 19, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Milford Memorial Library. The cost for this craft is $5.00 and registration is required. Milford Memorial Library: Youth Corner

It is sad to say, but this is Milford Memorial Library’s last full week of summer reading. The first program is with the local libraries at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, at the Pearson Lakes Art Center. We will be hosting the cartoonist, Tim Read, and his Silly Library Monsters program.

The second program is Building Bookworms at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, with Miss Becca at the library. This storytime will celebrate the kids with the craft being an express yourself poster.

The entire summer program will wrap up with an End Celebration from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 16. Don’t forget to bring your library ticket! The deadline for Bouncelandia is Friday, July 14, and all other prizes (without Bouncelandia) can be earned until Friday, August 4.

​Also, a quick side note to keep in mind is that Miss Becca will have another summer of ‘Read with Miss Becca’ from August 1-18. These are casual times where the kiddos can read and practice their literacy skills before school starts in the following weeks.                Fourth through twelfth graders are invited to join MML and the Milford Scouts on Tuesday, July 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the library, as we complete activities based off of the popular I Survived book series by Lauren Tarshis. This a is free program and registration is not required, but is encouraged. Register by calling 712-338-4643 or emailing [email protected].

On Tuesday, July 18, at 1:00 p.m., MML’s Open Book Discussion Group, will be discussing the featured book, The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn. Any interested individuals may find a copy at the library. It is not necessary to attend all of the meetings, and you are welcome to come and go as you please.

Milford Memorial Library: Youth Corner

It is crazy to believe that we are already in July, and our summer programs are coming to an end soon. Check out what we have left at the Milford Memorial Library. First, we have Building Bookworms at 10:30 a.m. this Thursday, July 6. We are so excited to have Miss Holly from the Pearson Lakes Art Center take kiddos through the process of making painted paper bugs. Then Miss Becca will be in charge for the last two programs. The first will be Minds in Motion (sensory play) at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 10, and Building Bookworms: My, Myself, and I at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 13. The interactive craft for this storytime will be an express yourself poster. Lastly, our End Celebration for those who have completed the reading-activity portion will be from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, at Bouncelandia in Milford. The deadline is Friday, July 14. All other prizes (without Bouncelandia) can be earned until Friday, August 4.
