You are invited to Milford Memorial Library’s Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 3, from 9:30 a.m. to Noon. Join us for kid crafts (make and take or to go), Santa’s visit, Festival of Tree voting, and treats provided by the Friends of the Milford Library. We are looking forward to starting the holiday season with you!
 
Y.A.D.O., Young Adults’ Day Off, will be held at Milford Memorial Library, on Monday, December 5, from 11:30a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fourth through twelfth graders are invited to come and create marble dipped cup and tile coaster, play games, eating pizza and popcorn, and watching the movie Home Alone. Join us for a special Paint Night at the Library on Thursday, December 8, at 7:00 p.m., at the Arnolds Park Library. D & L Ceramics from Everly will be leading us through painting a ceramic gnome or truck with a tree. The cost for this Paint Night is $30 and you will need to pay before the class for a spot. Contact the Milford Memorial Library, Arnolds Park Library, or Spirit Lake Library to register and let them know what ceramic piece you would like to paint. Items will be taken back to Everly and fired before they are returned to the library for participants to pick up.
 
The Holiday Gift Shop is in trouble and we are inviting 4th through 12th graders to help them finish up the season.  MML’s The Holiday Gift Shop Challenge Box is for Young Adults looking to create some handmade gifts. They will be helping out the shop owner by finishing up the three last-minute customers. These holiday helpers will be creating a lath star with a coffee stain, a cardboard snowflake, and a paintbrush gnome. The Holiday Gift Shop Challenge Box will be available Tuesday, December 13, through Friday, December 23.  This is a free activity, but does require registration. Milford Memorial Library is collecting non-perishable food items for the Dickinson County Upper Des Moines Food Pantry until Friday, December 17.  Let’s help stock their shelves!

Milford Memorial Library: Youth Corner

Milford Memorial Library will be hosting an Open House as part of Milford’s Holiday Fantasy weekend. This event will take place from 9:30 a.m-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3. We will have voting for trees, crafts for the kiddos, a visit from Santa, and yummy treats. This is a come and go event, and everything is provided by the library.

Also, don’t forget there will be a December Building Bookworms at 10:30 a.m. on the following Monday, December 5.

This week’s library feature is the many book displays in the youth area. The five main displays are changed each month and are based on what is going on throughout that month (ex. November-Thanksgiving books). However, The New York Times Best Sellers get changed each week, and all of the displays get ‘freshened up’ each day.

Milford Memorial Library will be closed on Thursday, November 24, Friday, November 25, and Saturday, November 26, in observance of Thanksgiving. We will be open on Monday, November 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
 
On Saturday, November 19, participants can start bringing in trees for the Festival of Trees. Categories are the following: Best Business, Best Personal/Family, Best Organization, Most Creative, and Librarian’s Choice. Winners will receive $20 in Milford Bucks sponsored by the Friends of the Milford Library. If you have any questions please contact the library by calling 712-338-4643 or by emailing [email protected].  The last day for bringing in trees will be Friday, December 2.
 
Join us on Tuesday, November 22, at 7:00 p.m., at the Arnolds Park Library, for a fun night of painting, fellowship, and snacks provided by the three local libraries. Any skill level is invited to recreate a painting following step-by-step instruction. All of the supplies will be provided by the libraries. There are only 30 spots available so pre-register at the Arnolds Park Public Library, Spirit Lake Public Library, or the Milford Memorial Library. The registration cost is $15. This is the final week for fourth through twelfth graders to register and pick up MML’s Young Adult Out of the Box Challenge. Registration ends on Friday, November 18. MML will be hosting our “Fill the Cart” for the Dickinson County Upper Des Moines Food Pantry.  Starting Saturday, November 19 through Friday, December 16, we will be collecting non-perishable food items. Help us fill up their cupboards for the holidays.
 
Milford Memorial Library can help you with your holiday needs. We have books for adding new family favorite recipes, cake pans for baking, movies to entertain. If you are traveling, we have our portable hot spots available and audiobooks for your drive. Come and stop in to see how we can make add to your holiday fun.

Mark your calendars for another Building Bookworms at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 21, at Milford Memorial Library. This storytime will be about being thankful and kind, and the craft will be huggable hands. While you’re at the library, don’t forget to check out the November youth book displays. They include Thanksgiving, hiking, writing, games and puzzles, and trains. So much to read, so little time!

This week’s library feature is the Youth Reading Resources folder on the table in front of Miss Becca’s desk. Here grown-ups can find a variety of papers to help with their kiddo’s understanding and love of reading. Some examples include parts of a story, book talk questions, and reading tips for at home. Miss Becca updates this folder monthly, so please stop by Milford Memorial Library to grab some reading resources.

This box will be filled with odds and ends to design a game, create an art project, and repurpose an item in your home. This is a free activity, but does require registration. Pick up and registration may be completed from Tuesday, November 8, through Friday, November 18. Any interested individuals are welcome to join MML's Book Club on Tuesday, November 15, at 1:00 p.m. The featured book, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, can be found in our library. It is not necessary to attend all of the meetings, and you are welcome to come and go as you please.
 
Milford Memorial Library will be hosting Festival of Trees again this year! Start thinking of your tree because the first day for drop off is Saturday, November 19, from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. We are looking forward to seeing and displaying your beautiful trees.

Milford Memorial Library has two more November youth programs for the community. Afterschool Activity will start at 3:30 p.m. this coming Thursday, November 10. We will play a variety of board games and enjoy some popcorn. The more the merrier in order to make the game playing fun for all. Our second program is Building Bookworms, and it will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 21. The theme will focus on being kind and thankful.

New youth book displays are out, and they are: Thanksgiving, hiking, writing, games and puzzles, and trains.

November has arrived, and here is a quick overview of the youth programs in this month. There are two Building Bookworms (storytimes) starting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7 (apples) and Monday, November 21 (kindness/thankful). Afterschool Activity is at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, with the activity being board games and popcorn. Everything is free and located at the Milford Memorial Library.

This week’s library feature are the many tables in the youth area. These tables are a perfect size for your kiddos to read with each other, complete a variety of coloring and activity pages, put a puzzle together, and even look at a world map. They might also be the perfect spot to collect your library items before checking out and heading home.
