On Wednesday, February 2, at 5:30 p.m., an open meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Milford Memorial Library will take place in the Milford Community Center. The agenda will be posted on MML’s website and front bulletin board 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend and offer their thoughts in order to make MML a better library.
 
Mark your calendars for MML’s Blind Date with a Book. There will be no awkward or forced conversions and no need to call. There will be no title or description on the wrapping. You will only know the book’s genre. It could be a diamond in the rough or one you want to return right away. You won’t know until you check it out. Pick up your book date Tuesday, February 1, through Monday, February 28.

Milford Memorial Library: Youth Corner

​The last January Building Bookworms will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 31, at Milford Memorial Library. The theme will be penguins, and it will be filled with stories, songs/rhymes, a coloring/activity sheet, and a simple handprint penguin craft.

Miss Becca also has some fun programs planned for February. There will be two Building Bookworms. They will be at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, February 14 (dinosaurs) and February 28 (teeth). There will also be one Afterschool Activity at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 10. The activity will be Valentine BINGO.

MML’s book club, the Open Book Discussion Group, invites any interested individuals to come and discuss the featured book, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, on Tuesday, January 25, at 1:00 p.m. Copies can be found at the library. It is not necessary to attend all of the meetings, and you are welcome to come and go as you please.
 
Join us on Tuesday, January 25, at 7:00 p.m., at the Arnolds Park Library, for a fun night of painting, fellowship, and snacks provided by the three local libraries. Any skill level is invited to recreate a painting following step-by-step instruction. All of the supplies will be provided by the libraries. There are only 30 spots available so pre-register at the Arnolds Park Public Library, Spirit Lake Public Library, or the Milford Memorial Library. The cost is $15 for registration. Encourage your kids to use the library not only by coming inside, but also through the Card Catalog. There is a Kids’ Catalog version which is much more user friendly and can be sorted by fiction, non-fiction, categories, or series.  This catalog can be found by going to our website (http://www.milford.lib.ia.us) and clicking on ‘Search Our Catalog’ on the left-hand side.  Then at the bottom of the screen, click on ‘Kids’ Catalog.’
Lastly, please remember MML’s last January storytime.  Building Bookworms is in person at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 31, with the theme being penguins.  There will be stories, songs and rhymes, a coloring/activity page, and a simple craft.

Don’t forget to stop by one of Miss Becca’s youth programs in January. There are two Building Bookworms left, and they are at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, January 17 and 31. One will be on snowmen, and the other one will be on penguins. There will also be one Afterschool Activity at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, and the activity will be air dry clay.

Get your game on with MML’s Young Adult Subscription Box: Game Night. Starting on Tuesday, January 11, fourth through twelfth graders will be having fun by discovering new card games, making and competing in table football, and building and playing Mancala. There will be a list of the perfect game night snacks along with a reading list. This subscription box is full of free activities, but does require registration. By going to, http://milfordlibrary.weebly.com/do-research.html, and clicking on the HelpNow icon, patrons can receive help with a variety of subjects for preschool through collegiate level. This is a free service provided through the State Library of Iowa and local libraries.
Did family and friends recommend a book or movie that MML does not have? Ask about Interlibrary Loan. MML staff is able to locate and borrow most library materials from other libraries. Patrons pay a $1.00 per material. Patrons will be contacted when material(s) arrive. For more information please contact 712-338-4643.

Happy New Year to all of our patrons! Milford Memorial Library has new youth book displays up for January. They are the following: food, I Spy, disabilities, winter/snow, and dragons. Please stop by our library to check out some great books to read with your kiddos. Miss Becca has four youth programs throughout January, and they are perfect for the whole family. The Building Bookworms storytimes include Mondays, January 3, 17, and 31. The themes will be bears, snowmen, and penguins. All of the storytimes begin at 10:30 a.m., and they will be in person at the library.There will also be one Afterschool Activity at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 13. This will also be an in person program at the library, and the activity will be air dry clay.
