We have a big week at the library this week. Milford’s Holiday Fantasy is happening this coming weekend and we have a lot of great events planned.

Join us on Friday, December 5, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., for the Festival of Trees featuring live music from Route 86 Music. The Friends of the Library will serve refreshments at that time. Festival of Trees will be held entirely in the library. Enjoy dimmed lights while you wander through aisles of books and decorated trees, sample refreshments, and enjoy the melodies of Route 86 Music beginning at 6:30 p.m. This event is free and open to all. We’ll see you at the library!

Stop by the library Saturday, December 6, for an open house, refreshments, pictures with Santa, free holiday crafts for kids, and stories with Mrs. Claus!

Saturday’s Event Schedule:

 It is not too late to enter a tree in our Festival of Trees. We will take trees until Friday, December 5, and trees must be left up through December 6. Trees may stay in the library until January 3. This event is free to all and anyone is welcome to bring a tree to the library to decorate it. Contact the library for more information.

This Wednesday, December 3, at 2 p.m., we will have an angel craft for young adults. These angels will be decorate the Milford Memorial Library Christmas Tree. There is no need to sign up. All young adults are invited to come do this craft after school on Wednesday.

An open meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Milford Memorial Library will be held this Wednesday, December 3, at 5:30 p.m. A free computer class will be led by Jeff Cookinham after the meeting.

Our public story time is this Friday at 10 a.m. The theme is “The Last Christmas Tree.”

 Stop by the library to check out all we have to offer. 

The Milford Memorial Library will be closed Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28, for Thanksgiving. We will be open on Saturday, November 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Bring in your tree for the Festival of Trees! Trees can be set up any time this week and next. The awards this year are for best personal/family tree, best organization tree, most creative, and librarian's choice. All winners will get both a $20 gift certificate to Perkins and $25 in Milford Bucks from the Friends of the Library. We have a Best Business Tree Award and in addition to the other prizes they will receive a hand crafted traveling trophy. Trees are voted on by the public during Milford’s Holiday Fantasy. There will be no public story time this Friday. 

This coming Monday, November 24, participants will be able to start setting up their trees for the Festival of Trees. This year the Festival of Trees is Friday, December 5, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., during Milford’s Holiday Fantasy. We will have musical entertainment by Route 86 Music, refreshments by the Friends of the Library, and voting on trees. Anyone can set up a tree when the library is open. Our hours are 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 9:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Did you know that Tuesday, November 18, is Mickey Mouse’s 86th birthday? In celebration here is some trivia; Mickey Mouse’s official birthday is classified as the day Steamboat Willie came out. Walt Disney’s wife Lilly rejected naming the mouse Mortimer and suggested Mickey Mouse for the name. Walt Disney was the original voice of Mickey Mouse.

Tuesday, November 18, at 1:00 p.m., our Open Book Discussion Group will be meeting to talk about Wave by Sonali Deraniyagala. This book is based on the true story of Deraniyagala having her family swept away by a tsunami. Anyone is welcome to join this book club. They meet every third Tuesday of the month.

Join our Children’s Librarian Betty Naab for public story time this Friday, November 21, at 10:00 a.m. The topic this week is “Turkey Tales.”

“Game On” at Milford Library! Today, Wednesday, November 12, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., we are participating in International Games Day. All young adults are invited to bring their game face, play classic games, and challenge their friends. We will play all games from Jenga to Ticket to Ride.

Thursday, November 13, at 10 a.m., we will be looking for our Shelf Elves. Volunteers take on the task of organizing and cleaning a section of shelves. This helps our librarians and it will make sure you can find the book you are looking for that might have otherwise been misplaced.

All children pre-school – 4th grade are invited to the after school craft party on Thursday, November 13, at 3:30 p.m. We will have book talk, snacks, and a fun turkey craft.

Ready for some turkey talk? All are welcome to attend our public story time happening this Friday, November 14, at 10 a.m. The theme will be Turkey Talk. 

This past week our Children’s Librarian Betty Naab and Special Projects Coordinator Gillian Anderson went to a workshop in Cherokee, Iowa, for the Summer Reading Program. The theme for the Summer Reading Program this year is Superheroes. Summer may seem far off but our staff is always looking for ideas and thinking of original events. In the meantime watch for our continuing creative programs.

Wednesday, November 5, at 5:30 p.m., is our monthly board meeting. After the meeting Jeff Cookinham will have a free computer class for anyone who has questions about their devices.
