Milford Memorial Library News

The Milford Memorial Library will be closed to walk-in traffic a little while longer. The library staff and board have been working on getting new carpet for the library! This week is the start of carpet instillation. If you peak into the library you may get to see a glimpse of the new carpet. Since this is a very large job we don’t plan on opening until after it is completed. We will still have our drive-up window available during this project.

Oh snap! Registration for MML’s Young Adult Subscription Box- Back to the 90’s is open! This Box will be all that and a bag of chips with stellar activities and crafts. It will also include da’ bomb recommendations for 90’s movies, TV shows, books, and a 90’s playlist that will have you getting’ jiggy with it. But wait there’s more, a 90’s inspired recipe your mama will love is also included. As if you’d want to miss out, call and pre-register. All materials are provided by the library. Dude, you can bounce by on Wednesday, October 7, 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., to pick up your fly box at the drive-up window.

Milford Memorial Library: Youth Corner
 
September Grab and Go Bags and Books are ready to go at Milford Memorial Library.  The theme is apples with the craft being a paper caramel apple.  Miss Becca also added some cool extras like coloring sheets, engaging websites, and a list of library books.  There will be 20 bags available (out front or Drive-Up Window) until Friday, October 2.

Please remember that even though the library is still closed, Miss Becca is more than happy and willing to pull books for your kiddos and family.  Send her an email or give her a call at the library at [email protected] or 338-4643.

This week we will be moving furniture around and all those heavy bookcases out of the way. If you peak into the library you may see a lot of open space. Since this is a very large job we don’t plan on opening until after it is completed. We will still have our drive-up window available during this project. 

Join us on Zoom at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, for a Paint by Number Night! Contact the library at (712) 338-4643 to pre-register and the cost is $5. Pick up your Paint by Number kit on Friday, September 18, Monday, September 21, or Tuesday, September 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and pay when you pick up your kit. All kits include an 8 x 10 numbered canvas, paint, paint brush, and instructions. You can do this kit on your own or you can join us on Zoom Tuesday, September 22, from 7:00 p.m. – 7:40 p.m. to participate as a group or ask any questions.

The Milford Memorial Library will be closed to walk-in traffic a little while longer. The library staff and board have been working on a very exciting project! When the public is able to enter the library again it will look a little different. Once you enter the front door of the library for the first time in months make sure to look down below your feet. The Milford Memorial Library is getting new carpet and it will be installed sometime in September! We plan on keeping our drive-up window open during the moving of shelving and carpet instillation. Since this is a very large job we don’t plan on opening until after it is completed. Much thought has gone into this project and we can’t wait to hear what our patrons think.

Join us for our Adult Craft Series on September 16, from 5:30 p.m. – 6:10 p.m., on Zoom. Participants will be creating Scented Mason Jar Candles.  Contact MML to register.  Pre-registration is required and the cost for each craft is $5. Craft Series Kits will be available for pick up the week of the event.

Milford Memorial Library: Youth Corner
 
Milford Memorial Library and Miss Becca will be doing two youth programs in September.  The first one will be Afterschool Sidewalk Shenanigans at 3:30 P.M. on Thursday, September 17, in the east library parking lot.  The activity will be balloon painting where the kiddos can make works of art using washable paint.  The second one will be Grab and Go Bags and Books from 10:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. starting on Monday, September 21, through Friday, October 2.  The 20 bags will be out front on Mondays and the Drive-Up Window the rest of the week.  The theme will be apples with the craft being paper caramel apples.

Milford Memorial Library will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.  Have a safe and happy weekend. We will see you at the drive-up window from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8.
 
Congratulations to Will Anderson, Elliana Antoine, and Riley Meyer. They are the winners of our 2020 Summer Reading Program: Quarateened Edition raffle.  You may pick up your prizes through the library drive-up window.
 
It is game over for MML’s Summer Reading Program: Quaranteen Edition and the young adults crushed it! We had 24 young adults earn over 90,000 points, read 325 hours, and register for 85 subscription boxes throughout the summer. Recipients of the Subscription Boxes enjoyed making dragon eggs, owls, along with other entertaining crafts. Thank you to the Friends of the Milford Memorial Library for sponsoring the Young Adult Summer Reading Program. As a result of this support, participants were able to achieve higher goals over the summer. Also thank you to the Arnolds Park Public Library and their foundation for partnering with us this summer to bring the YA Subscription Boxes to life. Combining our efforts helped to grow our Young Adult Summer Reading Programs.
Adult Summer Reading Program participants, make sure to bring your completed bookmark back to the library or log your reading online at bookpoints.milfordlibrary.net before Labor Day (September 7) for prizes.

Milford Memorial Library News: Youth Corner

Milford Memorial Library's Youth Program entitled "Imagine Your Story" has finally reached "The End". Despite the unusual Summer, there were some storybook numbers. We had 93 registered and 34 of those kiddos finished all three reading activity levels. Throughout June and July, we handed out 721 themed grab and go bags. Sidewalk Shenanigans had a highest number of 47 youth and 13 adults, there were eight families involved in our Facebook Challenges. Lastly Miss Becca gave out 86 bags filled with a variety of incentives to summer reading participants. Thank you again to all our families, Kiddos, Library Staff, and Supporters.
