Join Curt Strutz for an interactive and unique presentation on Wednesday, October 12, at 6:30 p.m., in the Milford Community Center. Guests will take tours through the nation's most haunted locations - possibly including abandoned hospitals, schools, asylums, homes, and more. All done with original photography, deep history, and haunted experiences. Visiting the Beyond is a fun mix of history, photos, storytelling, and humor. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Milford Library, Arnolds Park Library, and Spirit Lake Library.
On Wednesday, October 5, an open meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Milford Memorial Library will take place in the Milford Community Center. The agenda will be posted on MML’s website and front bulletin board at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend and offer their thoughts in order to make MML a better library.
 
Let MML help you have a relaxing fall night in or a lazy fall day. Prepare a slow cooker meal from one of our cookbooks.  If you like baking, we have cake pans available. Than wind down by curling up with a good book, movie, or puzzle from MML.
 
Young Adults’ Day Off (Y.A.D.O.) will not be held in October.  MML and Arnold Park Library invite you to mark your calendars for Monday, November 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Keep an eye out for more information.
Milford Memorial Library will be closed on Monday, October 10, in observance of Christopher Columbus Day. We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, October 11.
 
On the Milford Memorial Library website, milford.lib.ia.us, researchers are able to access digitized Dickinson County Newspapers from 1870 to present day. Users are able to filter by keyword(s), decades, and certain newspapers. When searching for keyword(s), researchers also have the option of picking date ranges of before, after, or between.  Once an article is found, users may download, crop, and print.

Milford Memorial Library can help with your printing, copying, faxing, and scanning needs. Printing and copying costs are .25¢ per page for black and white and .50¢ per page for color.  Faxing is $3.00 for the first two pages and .50¢ for each page after. Milford Memorial Library: Youth Corner

Thank you to the library families that made it out to Milford Memorial Library’s September Building Bookworms. We had a great time reading books, moving around, and completing a letter B teddy bear and pirate ship. The kiddos even got to meet an in service training dog. Please mark your calendars for the new storytimes at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, October 17 and 24. The themed crafts will be a space telescope and candy corn pot.

Any interested individuals are welcome to join MML's Book Club on Tuesday, September 20, at 1:00 p.m. The featured book, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab, can be found in our library. It is not necessary to attend all of the meetings, and you are welcome to come and go as you please.

Join MML for our Adult Craft Series as we make a Mason Jar Pincushion on Wednesday, September 21, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Milford Memorial Library. This craft also comes in kit form. The kit will include fabric, needle, thread, mason jar and instructions. The cost for this craft is $5.00 and registration is required. MML’s Young Adult Get Cooking Challenge Box is available until Friday, September 23. This Challenge Box is for fourth through twelfth graders, who want to experiment in the kitchen. The food challenges are based around planning and preparing a meal. This is a free activity, but it does require registration. Young adults may register by calling (712) 338-4643 or by emailing [email protected]. Subscription Boxes maybe picked up at the library.
 
For those who registered with the Dickinson County Extension and Outreach, a reminder that jam making with ISU Extension is on Tuesday, September 13, at 5:00 p.m., at the Milford Memorial Library. All classes are currently full, but there is a possibly of more classes in October. With fall comes harvest and around-the-clock work. MML is makes getting materials easy with some of our 24-hour services. Patrons can reserve materials online through MML’s online catalog. Materials can be picked up the next business day at the circulation desk or at the drive-up window. Milford Memorial Library: Youth Corner
September is here, and Milford Memorial Library is excited for the upcoming fall weather.

In the meantime, Miss Becca has one Building Bookworms left and five book displays on the shelves. Building Bookworms is on Monday, September 26, at 10:30 a.m., with the focus being pirates. Once again, the lovable, furry guest will be there.

​The five September book displays are: Library Card Month, Stan Berenstain, Jack Prelutsky, Banned Books Week, and International Translation Day. Check out MML youth programming on Facebook (@milfordlibrary) and on our youth webpage (milford.lib.ia.us/youth).

Author Linda McCann is coming to the Milford Memorial Library on Wednesday, September 14, at 6:30 p.m.
McCann will share about her book, Civilian Conservation Corps of Northeast Iowa. She will be reading from her book and sharing stories from personal interviews. There will also be time for questions and books will be available for purchase. The Civilian Conservation Corps was a federal program to assist young men in supporting their families. Most Iowans know about all the work done in our state parks, but that was only 25 percent of what they worked on. Most of their work projects dealt with soil erosion, flood and drought prevention and planting trees. She is still working on the western part of the state, so she welcomes anyone who was in the CCC contacting her. This event is free to the public and no registration is required to attend.

We will be watching Remember the Titans and making Bleach Spray Bottle O Pioneer shirts. We do ask you bring a plain colored shirt, not white. Everything else, including food will be provided. Miss Becca at Milford Memorial Library is gearing up for her September youth programs. There will be two storytimes at 10:15 a.m. at the library. On September 12, the theme will be teddy bears, and on September 26, the theme will be pirates. Afterschool Activity and 4-H Clover Kids will start in October.
