An open meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Milford Memorial Library will be at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, in the Community Room.  The agenda will be posted on MML’s website and front bulletin board at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. 

Participants for the 2018 Children’s and Young Adult’s Summer Reading Programs need to have all of their books read and logged by the first week of August in order to receive different incentives.  The Young Adult’s deadline is Wednesday, August 1, and the Children’s deadline is Friday, August 3.  Any information and the forms can be found at MML or on our website (http://www.milford.lib.ia.us).

The last day of the Young Adult’s Summer Reading Program will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, at MML.  Students will discuss how to make rock candy.  Then they can take everything home in order to grow a yummy treat.  Students will also be able to play different music related games on the Wii.  Lastly, large and small incentives will be given away to all of the participants of this activity and for those that read throughout the program.  All of the materials for this free program are provided by the library.

MML has a new calendar for the month of August.  Please check it out on our website, any of our social media, and print copies at the library.  We hope to see everyone at our activities.

Next week is full of both Summer Reading Programs and Pioneer Days activities.  Please join us for everything MML has to offer for children and adults of all ages.

The last day of the 2018 Children’s Summer Reading Program: Libraries Rock! will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24, at Florence Park.  MML will be having inflatables and pizza at no cost for the summer reading participants.  Music Notes Prize Sheets can be turned in at MML for the different levels of prizes until the start of the upcoming school year.

Paint Night at the Library will be at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, at the Arnolds Park Public Library.  Any skill level is invited to recreate this month’s painting with all of the supplies being provided by the three local libraries.  Pre-registration is required with the cost being $7.50 (early) or $15.00 (day of).  Contact any of the local libraries for more information.

The Young Adult’s Summer Reading Program will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, at MML.  There will be a short read aloud, a colorful wind chime activity, and small incentives for the participants.  All of the materials for this free program will be provided by the library.  Students are encouraged to keep reading and logging their books until Wednesday, August 1, for some amazing prizes.

Jump Start to Reading (one-on-one reading) will be at 9:30 a.m. and Stories and Crafts: Ants Go Marching will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 27.  Both programs are free, and all of the supplies will be provided by the library.

Lastly, please mark the following dates down for MML’s Pioneer Days events: *Potluck and Book Sale Set Up (11:00 a.m.-Thursday, July 26-Community Center), *Book Sale (2:00-5:00 p.m.-Thursday, July 26 and 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.-Friday, July 27), *Free Movie (2:00-4:00 p.m.-Friday, July 27-Community Center), *Photo Booth (5:00-7:00 p.m.-Friday, July 27-Florence Park), and *Storytime in the Park (1:00 p.m.-Saturday, July 28-Florence Park).

The Milford Memorial Library will have the Children’s SRP: Larry Dunbar & Company and his free program called World of Magic! at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17.  Kids are encouraged to continue with their Music Notes Prize Sheets in order to receive different incentives.

We will also have the Open Book Discussion Group at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17.  This month’s book is entitled The Unquiet Grave by Sharon McCrumb.  We have copies of this book at our library.  You do not need to attend all of the meetings to be a part of this group.

At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, adults are welcome to join Gillian for the loom weaving wall hanging craft.  This program requires pre-registration with the cost being $2.00.  All of the materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own colored yarn and designs to share with others.

Jump Start to Reading will be at 9:30 a.m. and Stories and Crafts: Butterflies will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 20.  Both programs are free, and all of the supplies will be provided by the library.  Please contact Betty at the library if you would like to be an adult reading volunteer.

Hank, the loveable reading dog, will be available from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 at MML.  Hank loves to meet children and is a great listener.  Children who are either beginning readers or want to improve reading out loud are encouraged to come to this wonderful program. 

Two other reminders include MML being able to laminate both business sized cards and regular sized sheets of paper for either $0.25 or $1.00 respectively.  We can laminate new Medicare Cards.  Lastly, please join MML during the 2018 Milford Pioneer Days through a Book Sale, Free Movie, Photo Booth, and Storytime in the Park.  We have information about these events on our website and Facebook.

The Milford Memorial Library has a busy week of programs for children and adults of all ages.  The Children’s Summer Reading Program will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10.  We will be having Bryanna Kuhlman from the Dickinson County Nature Center with her free program called “Geology Rocks!”  Students can turn in their Music Notes Prize Sheets any day of the week for different leveled prizes.

At 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, the Young Adult’s Summer Reading Program will include the read aloud entitled Wonder by R.J. Palacio followed by creating a cool sounding rain stick.  All of the materials for this free program will be provided by the library.  Students should keep reading the suggested books and logging them online.  There are a variety of awesome prizes up for grabs.

Another program will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, in the Milford Community Center. The Friends of all 3 local libraries (Spirit Lake, Arnolds Park, MML) will be sponsoring Don and Dianne Kramer and their program called “Our Neighbors, The Amish.”  This free program will feature information on 16 different topics about the Amish lifestyle and their beliefs.  There will be an open discussion and real Amish treats.

Jump Start to Reading will be at 9:30 a.m. and Stories and Crafts: The Very Greedy Bee will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13, at MML.  Kids can read with adult volunteers and then stay around for a themed story and craft.  Both programs are free, and all of the supplies will be provided by the library.

Lastly, adults can still be a part of the reading fun this summer by filling out an Adult SRP BINGO sheet by September 3.  The sheets are available at the library, and there are a variety of ways to fill them out for a prize.

The Children’s Summer Reading Program will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3 in the Community Room.  MML will be having Margo Sievers with her program entitled Everybody Needs a Rock!  Students in Preschool through 4th Grade are welcome to attend this free program.  Please keep reading and turning in your Music Notes Prize Sheets at the Front Desk.  For registration and information, contact Miss Betty or visit MML’s website.

We will have another Jump Start to Reading at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 6 in the library.  This program is a way for students to work on their reading skills in a one-on-one setting.  Registration forms are available, and adult volunteers can contact Betty at the library.  Following Jump Start, everyone is encouraged to stay for Stories and Crafts at 10:00 a.m. in the Community Room.  This free program is geared for Preschool through 4th Grade students. This week’s theme will be Yoo-Hoo, Ladybug, and all of the supplies for the crafts will be provided by the library.
