On Monday, May 6, at 10:30 a.m., MML’s Building Bookworms (storytime) will focus on community helpers from the area. These special guests will answer questions and show their equipment and vehicles.
 
Join MML for Afterschool Adventures on Thursday, May 9, at 3:30 p.m. Youth will be creating stained glass chalk art!
 
Join us for CrAFTER Hours on Wednesday, May 15, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This month bring and work on your own craft project, while engaging in conversation. This is a free activity and does not require registration.
 
Incoming 5th through 12th graders can now register for the Summer Snapshot Scavenger Hunt. You will be following clues, taking photos, and creating a photo display. We only have 50 available and registration ends on Wednesday, May 15! Call one of the libraries today to register. On Tuesday, May 21, at 1:00 p.m., the Milford Memorial Library Book Club will be meeting to discuss Dead Wake by Erik Larson Any interested individuals are welcome to attend. It is not necessary to attend all of the book meetings, and you can come and go as you please.
 
2024 Teen and Tween Sumer Reading Programs kick off will be held at Juniper Lanes on Wednesday, May 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Incoming 5th through 12th graders will be bowling and having pizza. Registration is required. The Kick Off Celebration for the 2024 Youth Summer Reading Program will be a movie matinee on Thursday, May 30, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., at the Milford Pioneer Theatre. The movie will be Madagascar Escape 2 Africa. If you bring two nonperishable food items, you will receive one free popcorn. Other concession items will be available at your cost.

 Join Arnolds Park Public Library, Milford Memorial Library and the Spirit Lake Public Library on Thursday, April 25, at 7:00 p.m., at the Milford Community Center for a presentation on the History of the University of Okoboji. Learn how this mythical university came to be and what they continue to do for our community. This is a free event and no registration required. Refreshments will be provided.
 
On Wednesday, May 1, at 5:30 p.m., an open meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Milford Memorial Library will take place in the Milford Community Center. The agenda will be posted on MML’s website and front bulletin board at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend and offer their thoughts in order to make MML a better library.

Summer Reading 2024 is bringing a new challenge for the teens and tweens from Milford Memorial Library, Arnolds Park Library, and Spirit Lake Public Library. Incoming 5th graders through 12th graders will be going on a Summer Snapshot Scavenger Hunt. With clues leading to local spots, they will have to take a picture at the location. Then they will print off photographs to decoupage onto a photo display. Registration for the Summer Snapshot Scavenger Hunt starts Wednesday, May 1, and ends on Wednesday, May 15. Only 50 scavenger hunts are available! Come and play during MML’s Minds in Motion on Monday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m. Younger kids, along with a guardian, are able to freely explore, play, and learn during this time. All of the materials and services are provided by the library.

Bring a book or several books to the Milford Library that you would like to swap before April 17. You will receive a ticket for the number of books you brought in. Use this ticket at the book swap event on April 17 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. to take as many books as you brought in. Please only bring in books that are in good condition. Even if you don't have a book to swap, this will be a great chance to talk with others about a book you loved. There is no cost to this event, just books that you would like to swap

Join the Milford Memorial Library Book Club on Tuesday, April 16, at 1:00 p.m., to discuss The Measure by Nikki Erlick. Any interested individuals are welcome to attend. It is not necessary to attend all of the book meetings, and you can come and go as you please.
 
On Tuesday, April 23, at 7:00 p.m., join us at the Arnolds Park Library, for Paint Night at the Library. This month Kathy will lead us though a simple watercolor painting. All supplies are provided by the libraries. Spots are limited so pre-register at Arnolds Park Public Library, Spirit Lake Public Library, or Milford Memorial Library. The cost is $15 for registration. Registrants will need to pay prior to the event to secure their spot. You may also register by going to MML’s website.

Happy April! Milford Memorial Library is all set up for another month, which includes five new youth book displays. They are non-fiction that hasn’t been checked out, balloons, weather, and a variety of books that you may not have read yet. There were 324 entries for our Spring Coloring Contest, and 14 kids that were a part of Read Across America. All of the baby chicks are posted in the library. Thank you to those who took the time to be a part of the March programs. Each Sunday, check in with MML’s Facebook for a reminder of what is coming up that week for the youth:

Young Adults will be using buttons, wire, and foam to create flowers and salt shakers as the vase. The Spring Flower Challenge is available Tuesday, April 9th, through Friday, April 19th. The 2024 tax season is coming close to an end. If you are still needing tax forms stop by Milford Memorial Library. We have the Iowa and Federal 1040 tax forms and the Federal 1040 tax instruction booklets. Federal forms and booklets are available in English and Spanish. MML will be charging for coping and printing tax forms. Blank tax forms will cost $0.10 per page and filled out tax forms will cost $0.20 per page. For more information and tax forms go online to Milford Memorial Library’s website. In the address bar type www.milford.lib.ia.us and hit enter.  Once MML’s webpage is pulled up, look on the left-hand side, find and click “TAX FORMS AND INFORMATION” tab. A new page will appear with links to state and federal forms and also to the IRS website.

Hello everyone! Milford Memorial Library welcomes your family to all of our youth programming. We are located on 1009 9th Street in Milford, Iowa, and the road construction does not affect us. Miss Becca’s programs fall on Mondays and one Thursday each month. Check out what is planned for April, and don’t forget to write these dates and times on your calendar.
