Register to get gameday ready at Milford Memorial Library! Boji Ware will bring a selection of patches to decorate your jeans, hats, bags, shirts, etc. Okoboji Hospitality is bringing materials to make ribbon hair ties, keychains, and bag charms. The prices for each are on the poster. This is a come and go event on Thursday, September 24, from 4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Contact MML with any questions at (712) 338-4643. Please register beforehand to make sure we have enough materials for everyone.
 
The kids have the day off on Monday, September 21, and you don’t know what to do? Head to Milford Memorial Library for fun and free activities.

• Building Bookworms Storytime begins at 10:30 a.m.
• MML’s ALL- Day Play from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Fourth through twelfth Graders are invited to create flavored lemonade during MML’S Y.A. Maker Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 
Join us on Tuesday, September 22, at 7:00 p.m., at the Milford Memorial Library, for a fun night of Paint Night. Any skill level is invited to recreate a painting following step-by-step instructions from the original artist. Only 25 spots available so pre-register at Arnolds Park Library or Milford Memorial Library. Cost is $15.00. Please pay prior to the event to secure your spot.
 
BRAND NEW - MML’s Author Fair is Wednesday, September 30, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., authors will be in one half of the community center selling and signing books. The other half, authors will be giving presentations. Join us for local authors such as Gene Gross and Tony Thelen. We will also have well-known authors such as Nicole Baart! Be watching for more information and presentation line up.
 
Following the Author Fair on Wednesday September 30, Tim Grover will present on his book Barnstorming Babe at 6:30 p.m.! He will talk about how after the 1922 season, Babe Ruth and Bob Meusel toured eight Midwest states in 17 days.

Milford Memorial Library’s CrAFTER Hours is happening Wednesday, August 19, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. We will be creating faux leather earrings and keychains. Registration is $5. You get two items, whether one of each, two earrings, or two keychains. You will be able to choose the colors. Call Milford Memorial Library at (712) 338-4643 to register or go online.
 
Milford Memorial Library Book Club is Tuesday, September 15, at 1:00 p.m. This month is Marie Benedict’s novel The Other Einstein.  Copies are at the library. Interested individuals are not required to attend all the meetings.
 
Fourth through twelfth graders are invited to MML’s Y.A. Maker Monday, September 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., where we will be creating flavored lemonade. During this free come-and-go activity all materials are provided.
 
Monday, September 21, from 11:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., come to MML for All-Day Play. Discover new and exciting toys while having fun with friends. This is a come-and-go playtime. All toys are supplied by the library.
 
 
Join us for a very exciting event! We will be hosting an author fair on Wednesday, September 30, from 2 p.m.—6 p.m. Half of the community center will have local authors and authors from the Okoboji Writers’ Workshop selling and signing books. The other half will have presentations by authors at the same time. Be watching for more information on authors in attendance and the presentation line up.
 
Welcome author Tim Grover to MML as he presents on his book Barnstorming Babe Wednesday, September 30, at 6:30 p.m.! Following a tough 1922 season and a World Series loss, Babe Ruth and Bob Meusel hit the road for a whirlwind barnstorming tour. Over 17 days, they played 18 games across eight states, with stops in major cities and small towns alike. From a spitball strikeout in Perry, Iowa, to a memorable hit in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, their journey was packed with unforgettable moments.

Milford Memorial Library will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, September 8, at 9:30 a.m. Have a fun and safe holiday.
 
Join Milford Memorial Library and a special guest teacher for a beginner Mah Jongg Class! The event will happen on Thursday, September 10 at 1:00 p.m., and have a continuation class on Thursday, September 17 at 1:00 p.m. There is an 8 -person limit for the class. This class is free, but you will need to register. Register by calling MML at (712) 338-4643 or online.


Join MML's After-School Adventures on Thursday, September 10, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This month, we will be creating marbled pencils. During this free activity, a small snack and materials will be provided. 
 

Any interested individuals are welcome to join the Milford Memorial Library Book Club on Tuesday, September 15, at 1:00 p.m. This month, we will be discussing Marie Benedict’s novel The Other Einstein.  Copies can be found at Milford Memorial Library. Individuals are not required to attend all the meetings. You are free to come and go.
 
Join us for MML’s CrAFTER Hours on Wednesday, September 16, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This month create a faux leather keychain and earrings. This event does require registration and cost is $5. You may register by calling MML at (712)338-4643 or online through the Facebook event.
 
 
Grab a bowl of popcorn and put on a movie from MML. Recently added titles include Hamnet, Zootopia 2, Hoppers, Goat, The Fantastic 4: First Steps, Jurassic Park- Rebirth, Superman, and How to Train Your Dragon Live Action.

Stop by MML for a free youth bike helmet. A selection of small, medium, and large youth helmets were donated by Blank Children’s Hospital to be given out to our community.
 
On Wednesday, September 2, at 5:30 p.m., an open meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Milford Memorial Library will take place in the Milford Community Center. The agenda will be posted on MML’s website and front bulletin board at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend and offer their thoughts in order to make MML a better library.

Paint Night in the Library is back! Join us on Tuesday, August 25, at 7:00 p.m., for an open paint. With materials left from pervious Paint Nights, you can render your own creation. Kris will also be on hand to help those who still want to finish the window painting. The cost for this program is $15. Register with Milford or Arnolds Park Library.
 
Attention Kids! MML has added some new items to our children’s department. Build your Lego skills with blocks and mats at the end of a book shelf.  Get your imagination ready for the new grocery store! In the grocery store, you can buy and sell food, run a conveyor belt, and pay with a card. Stop by for fun and play.
 
August is National Crayon month! Celebrate with Milford Memorial Library by coloring a coloring sheet and checking out books about crayons. We recommend Creepy Crayon by Aaron Reynolds, Wax to Crayon by Bryan Langdo, and any of the Crayon series from Drew Daywalt. 
 
Wanting summer to last just a little bit longer? Here are some books that will make that summer feeling last.

• The Sun Thief by Alice Hemming, will have you helping squirrel find out who stole the sun. When squirrel notices the days are getting shorter, he sets off to find who is taking the sunshine. Along the way he makes new friends with some nocturnal animals.   
• Sandwich by Catherine Newman will take you to Cape Code, where Rocky is navigating life’s changes while feeling emotionally squeezed between her aging parents and half-grown kids.
• The Green Kingdom by Cornelia Funke, has Caspia moving to New York City, just for the summer. Go along with her as she tries to solve the riddles from the hidden letters she found while cooking and finding friends along the way.  
• The Agathas by Kathleen Glasgow, is a summer time mystery that is the biggest scandal at Castle Cove High School.  Using the complete works of Agatha Christie, help Alice and Iris set out to prove who is really innocent and who’s not.

Milford Memorial Library’s Children and Young Adult Summer Reading Programs have officially concluded. We are so proud of everyone who participated! Congratulations on completing reading goals throughout the summer! The drawing for larger prizes happened last week and we want to thank everyone for an amazing summer. A huge thank you to all the sponsors of the Children’s Summer Reading Program, the list can be found on our website, and another enormous thank you to the Friends of the Milford Library Foundation for their sponsorship of the Young Adult Summer Reading Program.

New titles on our shelves at Milford Memorial Library.
New picture books (red) will have you helping a book believe in himself by reading The Shy Book by Howard Pearlstein, seeing what little owl he can do in Owl by Myself by Pete Oswald, and finding out what Herbie misses out on at school when he is sick by checking out A Day Off School by Oliver Jeffers.
In children’s chapter books (yellow), visit with Sophie Mouse and the Dragon Masters and explore the International Space Station.
Young Adults can go on an adventure with Sally looking for Jack Skellington in Shadow Over the Pumpkin Queen by Megan Shepherd.
Adults, MML added new titles from Jeffery Deaver, Shari Lapena, Kristin Harmel, Daniel Silva, Emily Griffin, and Elise Slivers.

Children and Young Adults, you have until Friday, August 7, at 5:30 p.m., to turn in your completed Summer Reading Trackers! Stop in to get your names into the drawings and get final prizes for filling out your garden. The Adult program ends on Monday, August 31.

Take a step back in time and learn about your family’s history at Milford Memorial Library.  Ancestory.com- Library Edition is available on library computers and wifi.  Before ending your session, you will need to download or print your findings because the Library Edition does not allow you to save in an account.
 
Discover new authors and titles with the help of MML’s displays. Each month, library staff create displays to feature materials you may not notice or that have just been added to the collection.
 
Printing is available at Milford Memorial Library. For a single-sided black and white page it is $0.25 and a single-sided color page it is $0.50. For a double-Sided black and white page it is $0.50 and a double-sided color page it is $1.00.

The Paleozoic and Plant Pursuit is happening until Sunday, August 2, for incoming 5th-12th graders! MML and Arnolds Park Libraries have hidden 12 dinosaurs around Milford and Arnolds Park. Find a dinosaur, scan the QR code and complete the task. Find all 12 and stop by MML or Arnolds Park Library to pick up your prize.
