We finalized the Teen Tech Week plans! The theme is “Libraries are for making…” All week we have Teen Tech Week Bingo. You will get a bingo card with different tasks in each square. Once you complete enough squares to make a bingo you will turn in your bingo card for a piece of pizza at the end of the week. On Wednesday, March 11, at 2 p.m., bring your school laptops to the library to learn how to edit videos. The library will provide a video for you to edit. Friday, March 13, we will be watching the movie Agent Cody Banks at the library. There will be popcorn for everyone and pizza for those who completed Teen Tech Week Bingo. Join us and see all the Milford Memorial Library has to offer.
So what do some of our librarians do during the week and how does it relate to you, the young adults of the Milford Memorial Library. We have starting planning Teen Tech Week! Get excited because this is going to be a week filled with great events! So you may ask what are some of these great events? We can't tell you all the details even though most of the plans are finalized but here is what we can tell you. We have a bingo game the whole week, a video editing event, and a movie on Friday. Wow that is a lot! Be watching the blog for more information as we get closer to Teen Tech Week, March 9-13!
If you watched the Oscars this past Sunday you may have seen that "Big Hero 6" won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film and Don Hall was one of the directors. Now you may be wondering who Don Hall is. Well he is from Iowa, Glenwood Iowa to be exact. Now you may think where is Glenwood Iowa? It is about 3 hours and 23 minutes from Milford. Glenwood has a population of 5,272 and Milford has a population of 2,979. Don grew up knowing he wanted to do something with art. He went to the University of Iowa and from there he went to California School of the Arts where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts. After this he went looking for work and in his early days he didn't have much luck. Then with some determination and hard work the struggling animator was hired to work on the story for Disney’s Tarzan.
While at Disney he has worked on Tarzan, The Emperor's New Groove, Brother Bear, Home on the Range, Meet the Robinsons, The Princess and the Frog, Winnie the Pooh, and Big Hero 6. This just goes to show that even a boy from small-town Iowa who put some determination and hard work behind his dreams is now making it big and has an Oscar to show for it. Thank you to all the young adults who participated in the Cupcake Wars! We had so many creative cupcakes. All young adults 5th grade – 12th grade are invited to come to the Milford Library on Wednesday, February 11, at 2:00 p.m., to take on the challenge of the Cupcake WARS! Create a cupcake creation inspired by a book and be judged by your peers. All supplies will be provided by the library.
