Computers
There are six computers available for public use. You will need a library card to log on to the computers. Patrons must use their last name and the last four digits of their library card number to log on.
Patrons from out of town who would like one-time access to our computers and Internet will be allowed a guest pass. Guest passes may not be used for more than one week.
Children under 18 years of age must have a parent sign their computer/internet use policy. The parent must physically come to the library to sign this sheet. No signed computer policies will be accepted unless a library staff member witnesses the designated individual signing the sheet, in person, at the library circulation desk.
There will be a charge of $0.25 per page for computer print - outs in gray scale, and $0.50 for color.
Failure to pay for your print-outs will be treated as one strike each time against your privileges.
Discs, CDs and other devices will be allowed in library computers. However, users can be denied access to library computer equipment if they are found to have caused any threat to the equipment or network. Also, users (not the library or its staff) are responsible for ensuring that copyright and other applicable laws are not violated.
Patrons are limited to one hour (60 minutes) of computer use per day. Upon request, patrons may be allowed an additional 10 minutes to safely close and save documents. Those requesting more than this amount of time must make prior arrangements with staff, and have a legitimate and temporary reason. Priority will be given to proctored exams, and extra time will not be allowed during “busy times.”
INTERNET:
The Internet connection at the Milford Memorial Library is available for public use primarily as an information source. All patrons are expected to use it in a responsible manner consistent with the educational and information purposes for which it is provided. Library staff reserve the right to do a history on any computer when a violation of the Milford Internet Policy is suspected. Internet access computers will not be used for unauthorized, illegal or unethical purposes. No one may send, receive or display text or graphics, which may reasonably be construed as obscene. Library staff will have final authority in judging the nature of a site. If caught purposely browsing a pornography, hate, or violence-related site, individuals must immediately close the Internet and leave the workstation. Respecting these principles will help keep this resource available to you and all the community to share.
Since the Internet Access computers are located in public areas which must be shared by library users of all ages, backgrounds and sensibilities, the library reserves the right to ask individuals to discontinue the display of information and images which violate the use agreement.
Individuals may not modify or gain access to files, passwords, or data belonging to others. Individuals may not seek unauthorized access to any computer system, damage or alter software components of any network or database.
The library does not provide e-mail accounts through the library’s Internet service provider on any computer.
Individuals may not harass, libel, or slander others, misrepresent oneself as another user, or plagiarize copyrighted information on the Internet.
All persons under 18 years of age must have their agreement signed by a parent or guardian. No person under the age of 18 will be permitted to use the computers designated for adults. Parents, not the library staff, are responsible for the Internet information selected by their children. They may restrict their children, and only their children, from access to Internet resources. Children who use the Internet unsupervised may be exposed to inappropriate or disturbing information and images. Parents and their children are encouraged to discuss the use of the Internet in relation to their family’s values and boundaries. The library asks that children under age 10 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when using the Internet.
Parents need to stress to their children the danger of any disclosure of personal information over the Internet. We suggest that you review our “stay safe on the Internet” brochure.
The library staff is not required to instruct patrons in computer and Internet use, but will provide this service to the best of their ability as time permits. Patrons are encouraged to explore and become familiar with the Internet on their own, as staff experience varies and they may not be familiar with the application you wish to use.
