All About Library Cards
Library cards are free to all users. There is no need to be a Milford resident, though we are interested in keeping statistics on non-Milford use and will ask you for residency information to that end.
To apply for the library card, you must physically come to the library to fill out an application. You will be asked to provide the following information.

- Acceptable ID: (Driver's License, Passport, Local Utility Bill, etc.)
- Address (Mailing and Physical)
- Phone
- Email Address
- Driver's License Number
- Patrons who are 10 to 17 years old must have a guardian present. Patrons 9 years of age and younger are not eligable for their own library card.

- Library cardholders will be held responsible for all items checked out under their number (library card number/ barcode). Library cardholders will be held responsible for payment for lost or damaged items at the discretion of the Director. The parent or guardian who signed for minor's account will be held responsible for all items checked out under the minor's number (library card number/ barcode). The parent or guardian who signed for minor's account will aso be held responsible for payment of lost or damaged items at the discretion of the Director.
- No fines are charged on library materials returned past due (up to 60 days) except for Hotspots. A $1 charge will be applied every day a hotspot is late. Items returned after 60 days overdue are addressed in a separate policy.
- Renewals, reminders, warnings, and overdues may be requested via phone, text, email or any contact method accepted by the library.
- Books, Audiobooks, Music CDs, Puzzles, Past Magazine Issues, Videos/ DVDs, and STEAM Back Packs are 14 day checkouts
- Hotspots and Lightbox are a 7 day check-out
- Cake Pans are 3 day check-outs
- Golf Disk sets are a 1 day check-out
- Milford is an Open Access participating library. As a patron of our library, you may check out at any other Open Access participating library in Iowa!
- There are two drop-boxes (drive up along the East Side, or walk-up to the Front door) for convenient return of materials after-hours.
- Items may be renewed online if you have activited your library account for online access (ask a staff member about this service). Otherwise just call or email the library.
- The staff call patrons on Saturdays to remind them of items 10 days or more overdue. Once items reach 60 days overdue a letter is sent and privileges are suspended until the matter is resolved.
- Contact our staff to request items you cannot find in our collection.
- Items can be reserved via our online catalog if you have activated your library account for online access (ask a staff member about this service). Otherwise just call or email the library.
- Patrons can check out ebooks from Bridges, Iowa's eLibrary. All you need is your library card number and phone number. Bridges gives you access to thousands of ebooks. For more information about how to connect your device and how to check out ebooks click here.
- Milford Memorial Library provides patrons with access to several databases. Search the Dickinson County Cemetery Records. Look for articles in the Dickinson County Newspaper Archives. For homework help at any learning stage go to HelpNow. For employment resources go to JobNow.
